We’ve run into one situation utilizing the hardware custom MOF and Sinv SH scripts.  It’s more of looking for guidance/best practice/design goal of managing the different types of MOF files or a “Moster” MOF file.  If you could provide any input to this issue it would be greatly appreciated.

Current Solution
With the Solaris systems that contains multiple Zones(Virtual instances) we will use a MOF to indicate that the physical system is a parent and then utilize the fact all system in this configurations have the same HW inventoried serial number from the physical system.  Now there will be 2 or 3 more situations that custom MOF’s will need to be placed and populated.  This means we need to manage 4-5 MOF file that are on all systems and just some systems.

Issue
If there needs to be adds/updates/changes any of the MOF file fields, it will cause an issue in trying update the files.  There will need to be logic somewhere to manage the custom MOF environment.

Solution A
Build a advanced Unix script to manage the file population(copying the files to the systems)

Solution B
Utilize SCCM to push MOF file to certain systems and updating will be done by UNIX scripting per MOF implementation

Solution C
Build a single MOF file and build a consistence process of managing the inventory items are enabled  Is there any best practices or guidiance in managing the MOF files?
